What are the requirements for Adult Care Home Operators and other staff?

  • Pass an annual criminal background check
  • Demonstrate English proficiency
  • Have financial resources and a good credit history
  • Be physically fit and able to provide care
  • Have verifiable hands-on caregiving experience
  • Complete an operator orientation, a basic training course, and pass an exam
  • Abide by Multnomah County rules and policies
  • Prepare for quarterly unannounced licensing and monitoring visits
  • Required to maintain accurate records, including: Care plans, medication records and progress notes
  • Own or lease a home that meets structural and safety requirements
  • Complete annual continuing education training
  • Maintain any licensure, such as Registered Nurse, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Certified Medical Assistant
  • Operators must be at least 21 years old and caregivers must be at least 18 years old
